'Radio Stars' live event

Young people from Greenwich’s Charlton School (Group 7 Community Special School) have been working with sound artist Thor Mcintyre to create new ambitious projects that explore sound as an expressive medium. They are making their own new radio programmes for online and FM broadcast across London and the world.

On Tuesday 14th July 2009 at 1.30pm the young people and Thor Mcintyre will present their own live sound event at Charlton School as one outcome from the project. Confirmed guests include Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet member for Children at Greenwich Council.

Radio Stars has enabled the young people to develop professional sound recording, editing and broadcasting skills, as well as build confidence and communication skills. The theme for much of the project is ‘the world around us’, and included journeys outside of the school to everywhere from Woolwich to Paris!

During the last week of August the Radio Stars young people will present their own live FM radio broadcast on Fresh FM (www.freshfm.org.uk), Greenwich’s youth radio station, run by Greenwich young people and Stream, supported by Greenwich Council’s Youth and Play Service.
