Sign X Here - carrying on your conversations to re-write the signs of East Greenwich

Sign X Here is an exciting digital arts project by Kyp Kyprianou and Tom Keene, commissioned by Stream Arts. It continues the conversations begun in the earlier Peninsula Voices projects which invited residents of East Greenwich to comment on the issues they cared about through a variety of art genres and platforms. The results are archived on the Stream website and offer a real picture of a community captured online.

Using quotes and inspiration from the archives, and conversations with previous participants, Tom and Kyp will now engage various groups, including the Greenwich youth radio station Fresh FM, local businesses and even the local police in a range of unusual and exciting activities. These will include a special guided activity walk with the local Bobby’s, a live flickr stream photo display created by local residents, tea parties and a chance for participants to create their own signs. A final publication will bring together images of the signs installed with their location expanded by the thoughts and imaginations of participants and the general public, collected via SMS, handwritten post-its and online comment.

All of the results are being archived and curated on a special web-site with live Twitter and Facebook streams, as the artists explore how a community in real time can be presented and even (re-) created on-line. A unique exploration of how digital art can intersect with and even inspire, community integration, this Stream project will provide a new model for community arts in the 21st century.
